A decision to form a provincial council of trade unions, as proposed by the industrial conference last year, was reached at a largely attended meeting of Canterbury Union executives. The meeting adopted a constitution and set up a committee of seven to bring down rules and approach individual unions who have not vet identifier! themselves with the unification scheme. The most important clause adopted makes it compulsory for affiliated unions to submit all claims for industrial agreements to the council before any action is taken by the union. In addition, the council reserves the right to have representatives at all conferences or conciliation councils when industrial agreements are being considered.—Press Assn.
