DIESEL ELECTRIC EXPRESS
RECORD OF FIRST WEEK’S SERVICE. LONDON, Feb. 27. A report on the first Diesel-electric express train service in Britain was issued on Saturday by Sir W. G. Armstrong Whitworth and Co. It describes the first week’s performance of the Armstrong-Shell Express, which is run. ning on the L.M.S. route between Euston and Castle Bromwich for the duration of the British Industries Fair. The train, it is stated, has run for the week ended February 21 a distance of 1,157 miles without a hitch. Tho total fuel consumption for the five days was 225 gallons, costing £3 5/6. equivalent to <>.6Bd a train mile. The train will continue the service until the end of the coming week. On Friday, in spite of the snow blizzard, it ran from London to Birmingham to time, with a fuel consumption of 20 gallons,, costing 5/10. Our 10 minutes were lost through the traffic dislocation on the actual return run.
