Fines and costs totalling £l6 were imposed on Percy Charles Mason, of Auckland, for using a public motor car as a passenger service without authority and for operating the car without a heavy traffic license. The inspector for the Main Highways Board said that the defendant carried passengers between Gisborne and Auckland. The defendant gave evidence that he had been legally advised that he could run so long as he did not collect individual fares and that anyone could hire him on Contract. The Magistrate said that the defendant was evidently trying to evade the law. The defendant, who said he was now workleas, was aflowed-three months to pey.—Press Association.
