HAVELOCK NORTH

FOOTBALL ACTIVITIES COMMENCEMENT OF SEASON Members of the Havelock North Football Club made their first appearance this Season on Saturday afternoon when about 20 turned out for practice. The ground was somewhat hard and requires much attention, but those who were there on Saturday derived much benefit from their run. It is a pity that more members did not turn out, as it is impossible for teams to be arranged until the coache? know who and how many intend to play. However, there is a practice for all grades to-morrow (Tuesday) evening, at 7 p.m., and all intending players are asked to attend. Grade games commence on April 22, and, therefore, there should be no delay in arranging the teams and having the players fit. There is a prospect of the junior team visiting Elsthorpe on Saturday, so it behoves these players especially to be present to-morrow evening. The committee of the Havelock North Amateur Athletic Club has all arrangements in hand for the meeting on Easter Monday. An energetic grounds committee will be busy this week, erecting horse jumps, yarding pens for the dog trials and preparing the ground for the cycle track. Cups and prizes are being exhibited in a shop at Havelock, lent, for the occasion by Mr Weathered. The dance to be held on Easter Monday night in the Village Hall should prove a great success. Mr Phil Walden’s orchestra will be in attendance. Cattle feed cannot be too plentiful around Havelock, judging by the number of stock that wandered the roads, not only in the Town Board area, but also on the county roads where they can be seen in mobs. Those who are responsible should take a timely warning, or a visit from the ranger might prove a little costly.
