MEETING OF W.E.A. GROUPS. From Our Own Correspondent. Both groups of the Olane W.E.A. branch society held their annual meeting on Tuesday Night. The box group reported a very successful season, the interest of the 22 members having been maintained throughout the course. The balancesheet disclosed a credit of £1 8/-. Mr R. H. Tod was re-elected leader and the Rev. Mr. Hall deputy-leader. Mrs Collett was unable to accept the secretaryship this year, but consented to act until a new secretary is appointed. Mrs R. H. Tod and the secretary were appointed to allot the parts in the various plays as they come to hand. The course chosen for the coming season is “Personalities,” and promises to he most interesting. It will comprise 24 weekly lectures, plays, music, etc., and the first meeting will be on Tuesday. March 28. The expenses will be higher than last year, but the subscription (3/6) remains the same, and if the membership cun be increased sufficient funds should be available to me-.-t all obligations.
The discussion group also recorded a very successful year, and funds are in credit to the extent of £1 5/-. Though this group has fewer members, there is plenty of enthusiasm and all are looking forward to the discussions. This group will have a course of 12 lectures written by leading psychologists, and will again be under the direction of the tutor-organiser (Mr J. A. Brailsford). Mr A. Clark was re-elected leader and Miss Logan secretary. The subscription wil] be 5/-, the same as last year. Tuesday will be the meeting night. GENERAL NEWS. The committee of the Boy Scouts is combining with the Girl Guide committee to hold a shop in St. .Tames’ schoolroom on Tuesday, March 28, for the purpose of raising much-needed funds. Tliough Hie Boy Scout troop has been established for a number of years, this will be the first occasion the committee has made an appeal to the public, mid any help towards making the shop a success will be gratefully appreciated. Mr H, Hall, of Layside, entered the Waipukurau Hospital this week for treatment. Mr August sent'., who underwent an operation in a private hospital, is making satisfactory progress. will be held on Sunday, taking the form of harvest thanksgiving. The records indicate that the church was originally built ou a section a few chains from where it is now situated, and there are still a number of residents in the district who were present at the opening function. Sunday’s services will be conducted by the Rev. A. N. Scotter, 8.A., of Palmerston North, ex-president of the Methodist Conference. The jubilee will be further celebrated in the coming week by a fair on Tuesday night. CROQUET TOURNAMENT. Following are additional results of play in the croquet tournament:— Champion singles.—Second round: Mrs W. 1. Limbrick beat Mrs Hutchinson, 26—12. Semi-finals: Mrs Rathbone beat Mrs W. I. Limbrick, 26—14. Handicap singles.—First round: Mrs Hutchinson (4) beat Mrs Rust (4), 26—15; Mrs Given (4) beat Mrs Gollan (6), 26—16. Second round: Airs Given (4) beat Mrs Rathbone (5), 26—10. Semi-finals: Mrs Given (4) beat Mrs Glcnny (SJ), 26—12. Handicap doubles.—Final: Mesdames Given and Hutchinson (4) beat Mesdames Gollan and Clark (6), 26 —9.
