HAVELOCK NORTH

FAREWELL TEA PARTY. Mrs Brierley, of Rochdale. England, who has been spending a year with her sister, Mrs Mintoft, of Havelock North, and who leaves on her return journey very shortly, was the guest of honour at a pleasant little afternoon given by Mrs M. C. Bond this week. During her stay in New Zealand, Mrs Brierley has been a keen member of the Havelock North Women’s Institute and has visited and addressed many of the neighbouring branches, so it was entirely fitting that at this particular tea-party all present were Women’s Institute members. Musical items, a reading, tea and talk made up a very happy time, and Mrs Brierley delighted • veryone with her brief but moving account of the life and work of Margaret Beaven, pioneer of child welfare work in Liverpool. Everyone joined heartily in a verse of the W.l. song “Comrades and Friends.’* and many expressions of affection and good wishes were voiced, to which Mrs Brierley responded in a little speech of thanks.
