OPENING CEREMONY IN WELLINGTON. Wellington, Mar. 15. The opening in Wellington of a School of Pharmacy and a laboratory was the mainspring of the congratulations offered at the official opening of tho annual conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand. Tho Mayor (Mr. Hislop) in opening tho conference, said it was his duty to declare open the new School of Pharmasy which marked tho progress of ■ a profession which had always maintained a high stan lard. Mr. Edward Smith (Auckland), president of tho Pharmacy Board, said the building was a monument to the foresight of those who had conserved the funds from tho beginning. They were proud of the first College of Pharmacy in New Zealand. It was as well fitted and lighted as the one in the Sydney University. Air. Smith added: “Wo are going through changing times. 1 do not believe wo will ever get back to tho old normal. We must accustom ourselves to changing conditions and strive to make them bettor. We must resolve to go forward and endeavour to raise the standard of our profession and society even higher than it has been in tho past.” Concluding, Mr. Smith said the society and school were self-supporting. They had no subsidy and no State aid and would bo able to continue on a self-supporting basis in which it could bo said tho profession was unique. Tho past president (Mr. Frod Castle) hoped tho board would keep up the educational side and advance with tho progress of scientific ideas.
