SCHOOL-BOYS’ BOXING

TOURNEY AT MAHORA. A PRONOUNCED SUCCESS. In the presence of a large gathering of parents and friends the school boxing tournament which was held in the Mahora School last night was a pronounced success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The entries were not quite as large as anticipated, the result being that some of the boys took part in more than one bout, but this did not detract from the evening 's enjoyment. The bouts, which were run under the auspices of the Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association officials, resulted as follows: —Gray beat Tong, Duff beat Hooper, Lowe beat Hyslop, Epps beat Boyce, Schofield beat Taylor, Evans beat Bone, Donnelly beat Maeklow, Macklow beat Circuitt, Donovan beat Donnelly, Hyslop beat Smith, Thompson beat Davis, Dyer drew with Ashman. A special medal presented by Mr. Tom Fox for the most scientific boxer was awarded to Thompson. Messrs. J. D. Donovan and D. R. Newbigin were the referees, Messrs. J. Stickland and W. Baillie acting as judges. At the conclusion of the tourney. Mr. C. Lassen, chairman of the School Committee, returned his thanks to the members of the Boxing Association, and also to Mr. Artie Hay, who has been responsible for the training and tuition of the boys. Mr. Newbigin responded on behj.lf of the association.
