The payment of current Taradale rates has been satisfactory, considering the present state of depression. The clerk of the Taradale Town Board, Mr W. G. Jarvis, made reference to the matter in his monthly report adopted by the board last evening. "About 81 per cent of the current year’s rates were received before the additional penalty was imposed, and approximately per cent have been paid since,” he said. "In addition £375 arrears for the past two years has come to hand. Ta view of the prevailing depression. this must be considered fairly satisfactory. There are, however, still the usual number of ratepayers who do not consider paying until pressure is brought to bear. Approximately £BOO is still outstanding, which accounts for the bank overdraft being nearly £1)00.” With regard to those ratepayers who have not. yet fulfilled their obligation, the board last evening authorised the clerk tn take the necessary action to enforce payment.
