STORE SHEEP SLIGHTLY EASIER. FAT LAMBS LOWER. Christchurch, March 8. An entry of 19,000 store sheep and lambs at Addington market to-day constituted the largest entry for the season. Lines were forward from many outside sources. The quality- generally was unattractive. The export price schedule for fat lambs declined Id a pound this week, but the fall was not wholly reflected at this sale. North Island competition for fat pigs caused further rise in values. Store sheep: The quality was the plainest seen this year. Quality types were in demand. The entry of lambs was moderate. Prices slipped by 6d to 1/- a head. Aledium to good twotooth Romney cross ewes made 14/- to 16/-; plain, to 10/-; medium four and two-tooth, 12/- to 13/-; medium s.m., 7/- to 9/6; medium, two-tooth halfbred ewes, to 14/4; ordinary, 9/6 to 10/6; good s.m., to 12/3; ordinary, 6/- to 8/-; aged and f.m. ewes, 1/- to 5/-; ordinary halfbred wethers, 4/6 'to 7/-; forward m.s. lambs, 7/9 to 9/-; medium, 5/9 to 7/6; cull and ordinary, 2/6 to 5/6; ordinary three-quarter-bred ewe lambs, 7/9 to 8/1; ordinary halfbred, to 7/-. Fat sheep: An entry of 4400 head. Butchers’ ewes and wethers sold at late rates. Export buyers operated cautiously, and for freezing weights in both classes values were slightly easier. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 16/10; prime heavy 14/6 to 16/-; prime medium weight, 12/- to 14/-; ordinary and light, 10/- to 11/6; extra prime heavy, ewes, to 13/1; prime heavy- 10/6; medium-weight prime, 6/9 to 8/6; or dinary, 4/9 to 6/6; light, 3/- to 4/6. Fat lambs: An entry of 3700 head. The quality was good. Butchers’ lambs declined 1/- a head. The export schedule is now down to 41d. Extra prime heavy lambs sold to 15/-; prime heavy-, 12/6 to 14/-; medium weight, 10/3 to 12/-; light, 8/6 to 10/-.
Fat cattle: An entry of 425 head of fairly good quality. There was no quotable change in values. Good beef made 16/- to 18/6 per 1001 b.; odd pens, especially prime light-weight, making 20/-; medium steer and heifer, 13/- to 15/-; medium eow, to 11/-; and light, 6/- to 9/-. Extra prime heavy steers sold to £9; prime heavy, £6 to £7 15/-; prime medium weight, £5 to £6 10/-; light and ordinary, £2 10/- to £4 10/-; extra prime heifers, to £5 12/6; prime, j £3 10/- tn £5 5/-; medium, £2 15/- to £3 7/6; light, to £2 15/-; show cows, £.B 2/6; extra prime, to £6 2/6; prime, £3 5/- to £4 5/-; medium, £2 2/6 to £3 2/6: light, £l's/- to £2. Fat pigs: A medium entry. The demand was good and prices firmed. Choppers made 30/- to £3 11/-; baconers, 35/- to 42/6; heavy, 46/6 to 52/6; extra, to £2 18/6 (average price per lb., 34d): porkers, 35/6 to 28/6; heavy, 30/6 to 32/6 (average price per lb., 4Jd to 51,d).
