GARDEN PARTY
FINAL ARRANGEMENTS. The garden party to be held next Thursday afternoon at Mrs. W. B. Nicol’s residence, 700 York street, Hastings, promises to be a success judging by the reports received from the various stall holders at the meeting held yesterday to finalise arrangements. Mrs. J. Hudson, who in in charge of the afternoon tea, reported that she had secured the loan of cups ami saucers, etc., and dozens of dainty cakes and sandwiches had been donated. Mrs. H. Boshier, who is in charge of the produce stall, reported the receipt of gifts of pumpkins, onions, jam, etc., while Mrs. Des Forges, of the cake stall, was still willing to receive many more cakes, etc. Ice cream and sweets are to be on sale. A programme of games is being arranged by Mrs. S. O. Garland and Mrs. Lincoln, with Mr. Ten. Highway to cater for the men folk. Music will be provided by wireless specially installed in the gardens, and Mr. W. Bewley has kindly lent a piano for the occasion which will enable a short concert programme to bo enjoyed. Mrs. Paul reported fifty invitations sent out to elderly folk ami arrangements made for their transport to and from the party. Mrs. H. C. Baird had willingly consented to recite for their entertainment, and other items of interest to them and to all would be submitted. It was stated that Mr. Frcthey’s bus leaves Russell street, and travels via Gray’s road and will stop at York street, a few yards from Mrs. Nichol’s residence, so there should be no difficulty about reaching the party.
