METHODIST LADIES’ GUILD
MONTHLY MEETING. Mrs. A. H. Scriven presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the above Guild on Wednesday last. After the routine business Mrs. Seriven gave a short talk on giving, basing her remarks on the words of the hymn—“We lose what on ourselves we spend, We have as treasure without end, Whatever Lord to thee we lend — Who givest all.”
To illustrate the meaning and result of giving the speaker told what the gift of healing had brought to the brown babies of Papua, and what the giving of the natives to the service of Jesus Christ had meant to that land. Arrangements for the Harvest Festival tea to be held on March 13 were made, Mrs. Hislop being appointed convenor. Mrs. Osborne, with Mesdames Robinson, Ainsworth, Brunton, Burt and Taylor were appointed in charge of kitchen arrangements, while those in charge of the tea tables were Mesdames Young, Spurdie, Jones, Hampton, Saywell, Clitft, Warren, Fearn, Fisher, Buckingham, Garratt and Scrivin. During the afternoon opportunity was taken to farewell Mrs. Scrivin, who will be leaving shortly to take up her residence in Auckland. On behalf of the Guild, Mrs. W. Garnett Scnr. presented Mrs. Scrivin with a handsome crystal vase, as a mark of the esteem and appreciation of the members, also a posy of autumn tints. Other members also paid a tribute to the good work done by Mrs. Scrivin. Mrs. Scrivin in a few words assured the ladies of her sincere appreciation of their thought as exptessed in their gifts.
