A CHINESE PUZZLE

POLITICAL SITUATION IN GREECE. DICTATORSHIP RE-ESTABLISHED. (Received 8, 12.30 p.m.) London, March 7. Messages from Athens suggest that the political situation is like a Chinese puzzle. It appears that General Othanaois, President of yesterday’s military Cabinet, immediately cancelled the censorship of General Plastiras and other precautionary measures. It is reported that General Plastiras to-day re-established the dictatorship and arrested the opposition leaders. The latest messages predict the speedy collapse of the dictatorship. Some provinces threatened to march on Athens to hasten its overthrow. Meanwhile M. Tsaldaris is trying to form a Cabinet. M. Venizelos seemingly regards his political career as ended and is leaving by a destroyer this afternoon. DICTATOR’S QUICK DOWNFALL. (Received 8, 1.30 p.m.) Salonika, March 7. Greece's resentment at the anticonstitutional attempt of the Dictator, General Plastiras, resulted in his downfall. Northern garrisons threatened to march on Athens if the President did not transfer the Government to the Popular Party. General Plastiras will be arrested. M. Venizelos and M. Tsaldaris conferred under the auspices of M. Othanaois, president of the War Council, and formed a provisional Cabinet with M. Othanaois as Premier pending the appointment of M. Tsaldaris. The military are controlling the Government offices, have seized newspapers and suspended communication with Athens.

A great meeting in the Public Square celebrated the Popular Party’s victory. The only disturbance was soldiers firing at the demonstrators during the dictatorship, killing one and injuring 20.
