The weather was perfect and the wicket good for the resumptiotn of the M.C.C.-Victorian match. The batsmen proceeded cautiously although never losing a chance of punishing loose deliveries. The half-century was reached in 83 minutes. Wyatt, when 29, was dismissed by an excellent one-hand catch. Hammond varied a great deal of defensive play with some glorious off drives, Paynter was troubled considerably by the left-handers, FleetwoodSmith and Ironmonger, and was dismissed making a wild swipe. Alien gave a chance to Ironmonger at mid-on off Fleetwood-Smith when one. Hammond reached 50 in ICO minutes.

The batsmen were surprisingly dull. Hammond batted 156 minutes and hit six boundaries. Brown batted 17 minutes and gave a poor display. Allen was a mixture of good and bad, batting for 95 minutes. He hit five fours. Tate was hitting at everything and was missed twice off Ironmonger, The innings closed at 3.51 o’clock. Rigg gave a grand all-round display for 113 minutes and hit seven boundaries. Bromley did some vigorous driving during the 82 minutes he was at the wickets. He hit four boundaries and one six.
