TUTAEKURI DIVERSION

BILL RECEIVED BY RIVERS BOARD. RATING QUESTION NOT INCLUDED To-day the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board was advised by Mr W. E. Barnard, M.P., that the board’s Bill re. gardi'ng the diversion of the Tutacktin river had been passed by the Legislative Council, while a copy of the Bill was also received. Mr C. Lassen said he would like members to receive copies of the Bill as it appeared to have been passed with amendments because the clause referring to the rating question was not included. 'The chairman (Mr W. G. Jarvis) said that now tho Bill had passed, Mr A. E. Jull. M.P., who had supported it, should be accorded a vote of thanks for his assistance. Mr R. E. Talbot asked if those opposed to the Bill had come back from Wellington 24 hours too soon. The chairman: Well, there is nothing like being outspoken. When the committee of the board left the House they were finished with tho Bill as far as Parliament was concerned. The opposition may have left a day before the committee did. Mr Barnard told us that the Bill was coming forward next morning and suggested that we see it pass the House. When we attended we found that it was down for the next session. Mr Lassen: I was satisfied that everything was finished and I left that night for Palmerston North. Mr Barnard is to be thanked for advising the board of th? passage of the Bill, copies of which are to be circulated among members.
