ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP

NAPIER PAIR’S SECOND. AUCKLAND FOUR’S TITLE. Wanganui, March 4. The New Zealand rowing championships were held on the Wanganui river to-day in ideal weather conditions and good water, with a neap tide. There was a large attendance of the publie. The most meritorious win of to-day was Auckland’s victory in the champion fours, the crew having gained senior status only a fortnight ago. A Union pair, Jackson and Trail, won the double sculls for the fifth time in succession and Jackson won the single sculls for the second time. No times were taken. Results:—

Maiden fours, 10 st. and under: 1 mile. —Aramoho No 2 (G. Pepper stroke, L. Sleyer, H. Bullock, E. Vincent) 1, Aramoho No 1,2, Wairoa 3. Also competed: New Plymouth, St. George’s, Wanganui No 1, Hamilton, Wellington No 2, Union No 1, Star, Gisborne, Wanganui N# 2. Won by two lengths, third back inches.

New Zealand champion sculls, 1} mile.— A. K. Jackson Union, Wanganui) 1, R. B. Smith (Waitemata) 2, W. Turner (Napier) 3. Also competed: B. R. Durie (Wanganui), W. Kennedy (Petone), C. Tarrant (Picton), I. C. Horton (St. George’s). Won by four lengths, third back ten lengths. Youths’ fours, Ij mile.— Union (W. Hasler, C. Stephens, R. Gould, M. Luxford) 1, Hamilton 2, Clifton 3. Also competed: Wanganui No 2,' Gisborne, Star, Petone, Wanganui No 1. Won by two lengths, third back one length. Maiden single sculls, 1 mile.— H. J. Luke (Wellington) 1, E. L. Hutchens (Star) 2. Also competed: Jones (Napier), T. Aichison (Wanganui), C. Tasker (Union). Won by five lengths. Only Luke and Hutchens finished. Tasker was lying second when ho ran off the course.

Thodey, T. S. Peters, J. Sealey) 1, Wairoa 2, St. George’s 3. Also competed: Wanganui No 2, Wanganui No 1, Aramoho, Union No 1, Petone, Union No 2, New Plymouth, Gisborne. Won by half a length, third back half a length. Maiden double sculls, 1 mile.—Wanganui (T. Aitchison and F. Burrell) 1, Union 2, Star 3. Also competed: Wellington. Won by one length and a half, thirl back two lengths. Wellington ran outside the buoy at the finish. New Zealand champion double sculls,

Won by one length, third back a quarter of a length. Petone were easy winners but ran outside the last two buoys. Junior double sculls, 1 mile.—Petone (B. Crane and P. Abbott) 1, Wanganui (T. Aitchison and F. Burrell) 2, Union (S. Nolan and R. G. Lampitt) 3. Also competed: Star. Won by a quarter of a length, third back five lengths. New Zealand champion pairs oars, Li mile.—Star (G. C. Cooke and F. H. Mullins) 1, Hamilton (B. Sandos and W. Bayly) 2. Won easily by eight lengths. Only competitors. Junior fours, welterweight, 1 mile.— Aramoho No. 1 (P. Stowers, F. Jones, J. Stokes, R. Percy) 1, Petone (F. Band, T. Crook, H. Pritchard, T. Watson) 2, Gisborne (A. F. Allen, A. Bell, R. Morrison, K. Crurcr) 3. Also completed: Wellington, Aramoho No. 2, Wanganui, Union, Wairoa. Won by two lengths, third back two lengths. Senior fours consolation, 14 mile. Aramoho (D. Holmes, C. Campbell, R. Coxon, W. Heath) 1, Hamilton 2, Union 3. Also competed: Picton. Won by three-quarters of a length, third back half a length.
