ASSISTANCE BY LOAN. TO MEET INTEREST PAYMENT. (Received 30, 10.50 a.m.) St. Johns, Newfoundland, Dee. 29. The Governments of Britain and Canada will lend Newfoundland 1,250,000 dollars to assist her in meeting the interest payment due on January 1. The Prime Minister, Mr. Alderdice, said in a New Year’s message to-day that each Government will contribute half that amount. The remaining interest, about 75,000 dollars, will be paid by Newfoundland. A joint commission of three experts from Britain, Canada and Newfoundland will examine Newfoundland's financial structure.
