NAPIER MARDI GRAS
NEXT MONDAY AND TUESDAY. NUMBER OF ATTRACTIONS Attention is drawn to the good prizes being offered next Monday at the Napier Mardi Gras for the decorated prams, push carts, doll prams, tricycles and trolleys and the prizes also being offered for the babies in the decorated vehicles, and the attendants in -charge of these exhibits. Further attractions will bo babies with the most beautiful eyes, revolving horse, laughing contests, rooster crowing, etc. Then we have the novelty event, “Hitting the Husband,’’ open to married ladies only, and for which good prizes are offered. Also the rage of England and Continent, “Yo Yo,” for special prizes. Wonderful entries have been received for the athletic and cycling events, and special boxing events will be featured, both on Monday and Tuesday. At night there will be more athletic events, band concerts, side shows and rides of every description, open-air entertainments and fireworks, all for the admission
charge of Is, which admits both afternoon and night, children sixpence for the same privilege.
ATHLETIC HANDICAPS. The following are additional handicaps for running events at the athletic meeting being conducted in conjunction with the Mardi Gras:— Marathon— McConchie (Wellington) 15 secs. 440 yards hurdles.— Callinan, scr., Sharpley 10 yds., McKain 20 yds. 100 yards.— Sharpley 44 yds., McKain 11 yds. 220 yards.— Sharpley 13 yds., McKain 22 yds. One mile run.— Walker 120 yds.
