CLIVE SCHOOL

END-OF-YEAR FUNCTION PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. CONCERT BY THE PUPILS. Taxed to overflowing, the Public Hall was the Mecca of all Clive on Friday night, when the annual school break-up ceremony eventuated. The children contributed a varied programme of songs, recitations, musical items and folk dances, which was followed by a jolly community sing. Mr. Hollyman, chairman of the school committee, then occupied the chair and congratulated the children on the very successful school year just ended, adding that the inspector’s reports were of a very satisfactory nature. He introduced the Rev. T. Frost, member of the Education Board for the Middle Ward, who complimented the pupils and the parents, the former for the enjoyable nature of their entertainment and the latter on their obvious interest in their < school in turning out in such large numbers. Continuing an interesting address, Mr. Frost particularly stressed the excellent work of the Hastings and Napier Dental Clinic Committees in their endeavour to cater for the children of the surrounding districts in addition to their own, and advised application being made for treatment.

1 Mr. Frost then distributed the proficiency and good attendance certificates and the following special prizes: Neatest work throughout the year (Mrs. Mcllwraith’s special): Stanley Lister, Std. IV. Most improvement (Mrs. Mcllwraith’s special): Patsy Kennerley, Std. 111. Most improvement (Miss Mcllwraith’s special): Cli: Nicholls, Std. 11. Diligence (Miss Mcllwraith’s special) : Kura Bennett, Std. I. Conscientiousness and most improved pupil (headmaster’s special): Ray Harper, Std. VI. Dux of School (School Committee’s gold medal): Keith Humphries. Hearty rounds of cheers were given for the staff, school committee and Mr. Frost, the National Anthem concluding a most enjoyable function.
