TWO WRECKS IN ONE DAY
CAPTAIN’S WIFE’S EXPERIENCE.
Perth, December 18.
The trawler South Sea arrived from Hull en route to Lyttelton. The chief engineer, Mr Morris, relates that when leaving Las Palmas after bunkering the trawler collided with the 10,000 tenner Stonepool which is engaged in the South African trade. The trawler’s bows were stove in to the waterline. Captain Dowell transferred his wife to the liner which was also so badly damaged that she had to be -beached, and after a desperate struggle, the foredeck being awash, she reached the land nine miles distant. Mrs Dowell says she can claim to be in two wrecks in one day. The South Sea, after bunkering, leaves Fremantle for Lyttelton direct.
