BREAKINC’UP CEREMONY PRESENTATION OF PRIZES From Our Own Correspondent. The break-up ceremony at the I’akapau school! was held on Friday afternoon when there was a record attend ance of parents. A very enjoyable programme was given by the pupils as follows :— Dances, standards 1,2, 3, and 4; song, “Early One Morning,” girls; singing games, infants; play, “Alice in Wonderland”; songs, Maori children; drill, boys; play, “Winnie the Pooh”; dances, upper school. After the entertainment programme by the pupils Mr N. M. Paulsen, chairman of the school committee, spoke on the spirit which should animate pupils, past pupils and parents in trying in every wi»y to promote the well being of their own school Mr Paulsen, in presenting the gold dux medal to Flora McMillan and the Form H proficiency certilicutcs to the Standard 6 class, congratulated the school, and in particular the form 2 pupils, on the good showing they had made in that all of them who sat had been successful in passing the proficiency examination. Good attendance certificates were presented as under:—James Parker, Norman Senk, Edgar Veale, Walter Stevens, James Bussell, Eva Halford, Ina Halford, Aorere Bould, Joan Keegan, Flora McMillan, Edward McMillan, Pat McGrath lan Eldershaw, Adan Halliday, Percy Hunter, Pat Foley, Doug. Bould, Martin Snee, Joe Brocktehurst, Henry Maaka, Kepa Naera, Pat Murphy, Barbara Oakley, Desmond Ellmers.
An apology was tendered for Mr Cuthbertson, member of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, who was unable to attend. Mr Caughley moved a cordial vote of thanks to Mr Paulsen for again being the donor of the dux medal, and said how very fortunate parents were in having a man of Mr Paulsen’s calibre to look after theninterests in school matters. Instances were given of some of the things that Mr Paulsen had recently done at his own expense for the benefit of the schoolchildren and Mr C’aughley said that whatever success the school had achieved in recent years was in a great measure due to the fine support that had been accorded by Mr Paulsen and the members of the school committee.
The vote was carried by acclamation and Mr Paulsen in responding, said that as an old pupil of the school it had always been a real pleasure for im to do what he could for it. Afternoon tea rounded off a very successful and enjoyabe little ceremony, which was concluded by the singing of the National! Anthem.
