Two Fires on Saturday
Both the Napier and Port Ahuriri Fire Brigades were summoned on Saturday afternoon, each to a grass fire. The Napier brigade was called at 2.10 p.m. to Captain Anderson’s property :tl Park road where a tairl'y large acreage ot grass was burning Save the loss of the grass and a fowlhouse, no major damage was done. The Port brigade was called at 1.33 p.m. to a fire raging from Hyderabad road to Oncpoto Gully, comprising a back section owned by Mrs T. I. McCarthy The grass was about two feet high, surrounded by a fire break six feet in width, and the only possible course seemed to be that of allowing th. fire to sweep through and burn itself out. This was adopted, and the section of the hillside now bears mute testimony to the deadly effect of n strong sun up..•> an exniinse ol timh ■ dry grassland.
