WAIPUKURAU SALE
LARGE YARDING OF STORE CATTLE.
A LIFELESS MARKET.
The cattle pens at Waipukurau sale yesterday were filled with store cattle, and a small entry of fat cattle. Competition for beef was much on a par with last week’s sale. The best offer for prime ox beef was £5 5/-, for ■heavy prime P.A. cows £3, and for light-weight Hereford heifers £2 10/6. The offering of store cattle comprised mostly two and three-year P.A. steers, from medium' to low condition, most pens being decidedly undersized for their age. The entry of cattle totalled 950 head, a very small percentage of which was sold. A small pen of fouryear bullocks realised £3 9/-. Twoyear P.A. realised from £1 14/- to £2 14/-, the latter price being paid for a well-grown line of well-bred P.A. steers. Two-year Hereford heifers sold at £1 14/-. The demand for 15-mos. Jersey heifers was very keen, sales being made from £3 3/- to £4 4/-. Exporters are offering 12/6 per hundred for ox beef, and 4/6 for cow beef. Needless to say these prices are not likely to create a brisk demand in the store cattle market. No sheep were yarded in either the fat or store pens, vendors waiting for some indication of prices from exporters. BROKERS’ REPORTS.
