WAIPAWA NEWS
From Our Own Correspondent. Followers of outdoor sports have been unlucky in the matter of the weather since the summer season opened, rain spoiling play each day. Last Saturday bowls, tennis and croquet has just got into full swing on the sports club’s grounds when a drizzle set in. An adjournment war made for tea, supplied by Mesdames Fleming and Gollan, and then a fresh start was made with play, but shortly after three o’clock rain set -in steadily and put an end to all games. The Waipawa H. 5.0.8. cricket team journeyed to Takapau t.o commence a match in the district competition. They won the toss and batted, but with the score at four wickets for 83 play was stopped by rain. Hobin 24, not out, Rust 16, Petherick 13, and O’Donnell 14. Three applications have been received by the town clerk for the combined position of traffic inspector and ranger for the borough. They will be considered at a special meeting of the council on Thursday evening. The second Hallowe’en entertainment organised by the Home and School League took place in the Concert Hall last evening, when an excellent programme of songs, Highland dances, and competitions for the young people was presented. This was followed by an oM time dance. Miss McGregor, now of Wellington and formerly one of the Presbyterian missioners in India, is visiting Waipawa, and is the guest of her niece, Miss Patterson, and Miss McDonald On Sunday afternoon Miss McGregor addressed the combined bible classes of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. A. E. Jull, M.P., spent last week-end at his home in Waipawa.
