NAPIER MAGISTRATE’S COURT

(Before Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M.) TO-DAY’S OASES. For procuring liquor white prohibited, George John Cleary and William Single were each convicted and fined £l, with costs 10/-. On charges of accompanying prohibited persons into licensed premises, the two defendants were convicted and I discharged. John McKenzie was convicted on a charge of entering licensed premises while prohibited and was fined £2, with costs 10/-. Sergeant Daly stated that this was his second breach. On a charge of procuring liquor while prohibited he was convicted and discharged.

Brian Lawrence Craig was convicted and fined £1 10/-, with costs 10/-, on a charge of driving a car at the intersection of Macdonald street and Kennedy road in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public. Fines of 10/- and £l, with costs of 10/- in each case, were imposed upon Morris George William Buckley and William George Bartlett for driving motor vehicles without being the holders of drivers’ licenses. The former defendant was further convicted on a charge of driving a motor cycle in Carlyle street without an efficient silencer.

For driving a heavy motor vehicle in Latham street without first obtaining a heavy traffic license, Charles Henry Edwards was convicted and fined £l, with costs 10/-. Charges of “cutting” the corner at the intersection of Munro and Dickens streets, and failing to report an accident resulting therefrom, were brought against Mervyn Claude Lodge, who pleaded guilty .and was convicted on each charge. On the former ho was fined £2 and on the latter £l, with 10/- costs on each charge. A fine of 10/-, with costs 10/-, was imposed upon Haywood Henry McDougall, who was convicted on a charge of attempting to cross the railway line when it was not clear. Sergeant Daly stated that the defendant’s car had struck the guard’s vUn of a train crossing Milter street. The Magistrate ordered that the defendant pay the sum of £3 16/11 towards the damage done to the van'
