BUILDING PROGRESS IN NAPIER
WORK VALUED AT £388,892. 39 BLOCKS UNDER WAY. The value of the 39 buildings in in progress of erection in the business area of Napier at the present time is £257,891, while the 38 buildings which have already been completed represent a value of £130,801. The total value of the work which has been carried out or is under way in the town area comprising Hastings, Emerson, Tennyson and Dalton streets from the time of the earthquake is £338,692.
Emerson street is showing the most advancement, there being 20 buildings in the process of erection and 15 which are completed, the former having as their value £119,340 and the latter £36,725. Many of the buildings in this street are of the smaller type and are not so costly as many of those situated in Hastings street where there are such large blocks as the Masonic Hotel and the Market Reserve Block. In Hastings street there are 14 blocks under way with a value of £115,046, wn’le the 12 which have already been completed have involved an expenditure of £71,852. With one or two exceptions all of the blocks in Emerson and Hastings streets contain shop premises on the ground floor with office accommodation and professional suites on the second floors.
Tennyson street is confliwd mainly to office premises and similar business accommodation, there being in this street five buildings in the course of erection having a value of £23,505, while there are 11 completed blocks requiring a total expenditure of £22,224.
