DEHORNING CATTLE
A WISE PRACTICE. A local dairyfarmer informed a representative of the “Tribune” that he was much in sympathy with the proposed legislation that all cattle should be dehorned. Recently a valuable heifer received a deep wound in her udder from the horns of another member of his herd. Prompt measures were taken the following day to dehorn all the herd. Although the cows were in full milk, their yield was ad versely affected for one milking only. A great advantage of having dairy cows dehorned is the saving of yard space in accommodating the herd at the milking shed. Where yards have to be concreted this saving is well worthy of consideration.
