SWIMMING

THE NAPIER CLUB.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Napier Swimming Club was held at the Muncipall Baths last evening, the president, Mr J. Hislop, presiding over

a large attendance. The annua! report and balance-sheet were adopted. The latter showed a balance in hand of £2O 14/1. In commenting on the activities of the past year, the president expressed regret that the membership was not greater than it was. In a seaside town like Napier the membership should be three times as much as it was. With regard to the financial position, he thought it quite satisfactory, notwithstanding the small membership, the balance being greater than it was at the beginning of last season. He trusted that the active members of the club would do their best to make it a “live” one and not only the best in Hawke’s Bay but in the whole of New Zealand.

Mr W. Heffernan also made reference to the past activities of the club, stating that the present state of depression prevented many members from paying their subscriptions. The committee last season had taken the liberty of writing off the subscriptions of those members who were unemployed, but it was hoped that the funds would be augmented this year by the holding of various competitions and events.

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows Patron, Mr J. Vigor Brown; vice-patron, Mr John Mason; president, Mr J. Hislop; vice-presidents, Messrs H. D. Stevenson, W. D Corbett, G. Husheer, J. 0. Bryant, M. L. Gleeson, J. Chambers A. W H. King, J. Y. Hannay, J. W. Norrie, S. P. Spiller, J Snaddon, P. Higgins, J. Dick, C. McLean, W. Corbett, W. G. Hay and Drs P.
