N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION. The meeting of the Bush Nurse and Housekeeper Auxiliary was held recently. The meeting was arranged in Auckland in order to give the northern branches an opportunity of becoming better acquainted with the management of the nurse and housekeeper scheme, and it was gratifying to the executive officers to see fifty voting delegates and many visitors presei#. The Dominion president, Mrs C. •C. Jackson, was in the chair. The Dominion secretary reported that during the three months under review 79 positions had been filled by the registered housekeepers in the following districts: Wellington Central 8, South Canterbury 8, Wairarapa 9, South Auckland 21, Taranaki 4, North Auckland 5, Bay of Plenty 5, Waitemata 2, Manawatu 4, Hawke’s Bay 4, Southland 3, Wanganui 6. In 46 cases the housekeepers’ wage had been supplemented from the community chest fund. During the Dominion president’s visit to Auckland, opportunity was taken to address a large gathering of Auckland women organised by Mrs Noel Adams. The president explained the aims and objects of the division, making special mention of the effort to strengthen the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, the Bush Nurse and Housekeeper Auxiliary, work in connection with Floek House girls and boys, and the Women’s Exchange.
At the conclusion of the Dominion president’s address it was resolved that a branch be inaugurated in Auckland city and also that branches bo formed at Papakura and Mangore.
