LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIPS. FOURTH ROUND COMPLETED. Timaru, Oct. U. X 'The fourth round of the New Ze*land ladies' golf championships saw calculations further upset, there being two more surprise wins. Though Mrs Tempter (Waimate) had been playing steady golf during the tournament, it was expected that Miss M. Stevens (Pupuke), vanquisher of Miss Gaisford in the first round, would prove her superior, but Mrs Templet fought the match to the 20th bole, where she won, oae up. Miss Stevens bad a lapse, her form on the greens being most inconsistent. Miss Barnes Graham (Poverty Bay), one of the most promising of the younger players, went down to.J'iss Loughnan, the match going to the 19th. Miss Watson (Manawatu) was beaten by Miss Rutherford (Hawarden), this being another unlooked-for victory, for the winner had not shown consistent form. She appeared to be off her game at the start but suddenly struck form and gave a brilliant exhibition of driving and putting. Mrs H. Collinson (Manawatu) beat Miss M- Tisard (Timaru), two up and one, after a hard-fought game. The Melfcop Cup was won by Miss O. Kay (Otago) with a total of 246. This was her seventh consequent win. The cup has been held by only four players in the last 21 years. The runner-up this year was Mrs Dodgshun (Otago). The Doimelly Cup was won by Miss Jean Horwell (Timaru) who returned 83—7—76. She also takes the trophy for the best score in the senior division. The junior division was won by Mrs M. Brace (Timaru). The best gross score was won by Mrs Dodgshun, with a score of 82. The inter-district teams match was won by Canterbury A, with a margin if 15 strokes over Otago A. The Innes Cup to the player of the winning team returning the best round was won by Miss Jean Horwell. Miss KuUierford tied with a score of 83, but Miss Hotwell was adjudged winner over the last nine holes.
