By Telegraph—Press Association. Otaki, Oct. 7The weather is fine, the course hard and the attendance satisfactory for the Otaki. Maori meeting. Results:— Hurdles.—s Henry of Navarre 1,2 Warzone 2, 1 High Commissioner 3. Three dividends were paid. Also started: Balloon, Juggle, Hunting Boy, Bird Call, Gambler, Miss Energetic. Gambler, Bird Call and Balloon fell. Won by five lengths, three lengths between second and third. Time, 2.48. Maiden Handicap.—2 Illumenelli 1, 1 Pladie 2, 4 Boon 3. All started. Won by a length and a half, a length between second and third. Time, 1.15 2-5. Three dividends. Katihaku Hack.—4 Lyrical 1,2 Gay Court 2, 3 Tigerism 3. Scr.: Forest Stag, Glowlight, Acron. Won by • length. Time, 1.27. Three dividends. H. N. WIGGINS RETURNING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 7. A private cable received from H. N. Wiggins, the jockey, states that he is returning by this iveek’s boat to Auckland. HORSE FLOAT STRUCK BY TRAIN. By Telegraph—Press Association Wellington, Oct. 7. As the Wellington-Palmerston North train was pulling into Paekakariki station this morning, the driver of a float conveying three horses to the Otaki races from Trentham, apparently was not aware of its proximity, and made to cross the rails. Catching sight of danger he applied the brakes promptly, but the float struck the train, which was also being braked, and suffered damage in front. The driver escaped injury, as also did the horses. They were: Gay Court, Araios and Late Jest. They soon settled down after their fright, apparently none the worse for the shaking. The trainers, H. T. Benge and G. A. Palmer, were also on the float.
