BUILDING IN HASTINGS
FIGURES FOB AUGUST . ’ MUCH ACTIVITY. The estimated value of buildings in respect of which permits were issued in Hastings last month is £4253, which amount does not include the cost of the new building now begun for Mr. Maurice Mason, and situated opposite the Hastings Hotel. That building will be Of two storeys, and will have five shops on the ground floor and nine offices in the upper storey. Included in the August figures are two dwellings of a total cost of £1545, and seven new motor sheds. The largest single item is £1750 for Mr. F. J. Tonkin’s block of shops in Karamu road, and there is also a sum of £565 representing the cost of a shop and dwelling. The total number of permits issued during the month was 15, as against 26 permits for work costing £25,730 in August last year. Since April 1 last there have been issued 84 permits for work costing £46,995, as against 144 permits for work costing £97,119 in the corresponding previous period.
