STORE SHEEP ADVANCE Christchurch, Aug. 31. The featurt- erf the weekly market at Addington wns the keenness of the stoic sheep auction, with an advance in values. Store sheep.— A large yarding met with a brighter sale, and values advanced Is n head. Good ewe hoggets and ewes in lamb were keenly sought. 9d to Ss 9d, aged 3b 6d to 6s; good ewe hoggets 12s 2d to 14s 4d; s.m. Merino ewes to 4s 6d, ordinary 4 and 6th halfbred to 12s Id! medium halfbred wethers to 1 Is, ordinary halfbred wethers to 8s 4d; medium wether hoggets to 9s lOd. Fat sheep.— An entry of 4400 met with an erratic sale, wethers showing a decline of Is a head. Spring lambs brought to 24s 9d. Best beef made up to 23s per 100 lbs., good 16s 6d to 20s, heavy 16s to 18s, secondary 12s to 16s, inferior and rough down to 9s. Values wore: Extra prime heavy steers to £ll 12s Cd, prinje heavy £7 5s to £9 10s, prime medium weight £6 to £7 15s, medium quality £3 10s to £5 10s, light to ./ <■
£3 10s; extra prime heifers to £S 12s 6d, prime £5 10s to £7 10s, medium £4 to £5 10s, light to £3 10s; extra prime cows to £8 17s 6d, prime £4 15s to £6 10s, medium £3 to £4 ss, light to £2 17s 6d. There was a small entry of fat pigs, and the demand was keen. Values were: Choppers £3 10s to £6 6s, baconers 54s 6d to £3 5s 6d, heavy baconers £3 10s to £3 17s 6d, extra heavy baconers £4 8s fid; average price per lb 51d to 64d. Porkers brought 28s fid to 33s 6d and heavy porkers 36s 6d to £2 7s 6d; average pice per lb., 6d to 7d.
