RIFLE SHOOTING

H.B. MINIATURE ASSOCIATION FIRST ANNUAL MEETING. NAPIER WINS TEAMS’ MATCH. The recently-formed Hawke’s Bay Miniature Bifle Association held their first annual handicap meeting at Roy’s Hill at the week-end. Weather conditions, although not perfect, were quite satisfactory, but a tricky side wind added to the difficulties of shooters generally. This meeting, which provided tor competitions at 25. 50 and 100 yards, is believed to oe an innovation in New Ze:.land, and judging by the excellent entries received, snculd prive to be a popular attraction to all miniature shooters.

The Napier team are to be congratulated on their excellent performance in winning the championship aggregate so decisively, besides annexing the bulk of the prize money in the individual matches.

The surprise result at the meeting was the outstanding success of E. Kcong, a junior member of the Haumoana club, in winning the Napier match, the handicap aggregate, third in the Napier match, sixth in the Haumoana match, and eighth in the championship aggregate. The championship aggregate and optional sweep were won by J. Carmichael who also annexed seventh prize in the handicap aggregate, third in the Haumoana match, and was counted out in the Hastings match. D. McDonald, of Pakowhai, won the opening match with the only possible, with W. J. Green runner-up.

The Napier match was won by R. Nicholson (Napier), also with a possible. R. C. Holt (Napier) was second. The Haumoana match at one hundred yards was won by J. Munro (Napier), who submitted the best score out of ten shooters who attained the standard of 97. K. Semmens, of Pokowhai. was second on the count back.

The thanks of the executive are due to Messrs J. Hallagan, R Humphries. Bitters, Carl Baker, junr., J. Sim and all those who, by their valued assistance, helped to make the meeting the thorough success it was.
