IRISH CONSTITUTION
DEFENCE ASSOCIATION. FREE STATE ARMY COMRADES. London, August 12. “The Times’ ” Dublin correspondent says that the Irish Free State Army Comrades Association, comprising form, er members of the Free State Army, has issued an appeal for volunteers to assist in defending the constitution. The association says in its appeal that it would always support a lawfully constituted Government,, but is opposed to Communism. It regards as extremely dangerous the new fashion of branding as traitors certain public men, will resist attempts at interfering with free speech, and will stand by comrades marked down for persecution and attack. The association regrets the present executive tolerance of the presence of arms in the country in defiance of the law.
DE VALERA’S DOINGS. DEVELOPING TRADE PLANS. London, August 12. Mr de Valera and his colleagues are reported to be developing trade plans for a new Ireland while the Dail and the Senate are on holiday. Payments withheld in the dispute with Britain now amount to £1,671,000.
