HASTINGS WEST SCHOOL

ENJOYABLE CONCERT. A concert was held at the school last evening, proving in every way a great success. An excellent programme was given to a large audience, the attendance being such that at the last minute extra accommodation had to be provided for the overflow. Mr A. Matthews and his entertainment committee carried out the arrangements for the concert and the success of the venture reflects great credit to them. Accompaniments were played for the first portion of the programme by Mr W. Lord. The programme was as follows Piano solo, Miss McGrath; songs, Misses Youngson and Penman and Messrs Bewley, Burnett, Naylor and Poppelwell; recitation, Miss McComb; dances, Misses Swiggs and H. Campbell and also Pat and Peggy Young; duet, Helen Roach and Audrey Aiderman, and two choruses by pupils in Primers 3 and i. The second half of the programme was carried out by the “Ragamuffin Romeos” under the capable direction of Mr and Mrs W. Hainsworth, and was much appreciated by the large audience. At the conclusion of the concert, Mr McKee, chairman of the School Committee, thanked the performers for their excellent entertainment and for their generosity in assisting the school. Supper was provided for the performers by the ladies’ committee.
