NAPIER-WAIROA RAILWAY

THE PUTORINO SECTION. MB BARNARD’S INFORMATION. Mr W. £. Barnard, M.P., who has just returned from Wellington, in conversation with a “Tribune” representative this morning, says he finds that the reason why the line between .xapier and Putorino has not been reconditioned is that work on the whole of the line to Wairoa was shelved on the recommendation of the Railways Board, and the Government, therefore, is at the moment impotent. Mr Barnard says he proposes to communicate with the local authorities in Wairoa with a view to seeing if control of the line from Napier to Putorino can >e handed back to the Public Works Department, so that they may be able to control the whole of the line.

From information he has obtained in Wellington, Mr Barnard says he is satisfied that the whole line could be completed at a cost of less than £lOO,OOO.
