“BROTH OF A BOY”
POPULAR STANLEY WOODS. IRISH MOTOR CYCLING WIZARD. Among the many international motorcycle riders, the one who, this year, is standing out above all others is the popular Irishman, Stanley Woods. For some time Woods has been recognised as one of the best road race motor cyclists ever seen, and during 1931 he gained the following successes on his Norton: — Dutch Junior T.T., first; Dutch Senior T.T., second; German Grand Prix., first; Belgium Senior Grand Prix, first; and Swiss Grand Prix, first. His greatest success for the year was in winning the Ulster Grand Prix in Ireland, which is titled the fastest motor-cycle road race in the world, at the phenomenal speed of 86j miles per hour. The 1932 international racing season has also beeu a procession of successes for this wonderful rider. He commenced by winning both the Isle of Man T.T. ra<-es, the junior event at the average speed of 77 miles per hour yviih. re-
cord lap of 781 m.p.h., while in the senior event he put up the successful average speed of 79 1-3 m.p.h.
Since this event, S. Woods has won the following races:—Dutch International T.T., junior event, first with record lap; senior event, second at over 82 m.p.h.; French Grand Prix (July 2), senior class, first with record lap; and Belgium Grand Prix (July 15), senior class, first, breaking all records for the course. In all his wonderful racing career, Stanley Woods has used one make of machine, the Norton, and to this fact he attributes his marked .success, as he considers the quality of material and workmanship, together with its reliability, have helped him considerably in his road racing.
