WAIPAWA RACING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING. REDUCTION IN STAKE MONEY. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Waipawa County Racing Club, the president, Mr W. J. Wood, in the chair. The report stated that the last race meeting held by the club had been, on the whole, satisfactory, although the weather was not of the best. The debit balance had been only slightly increased, and the financial position was quite sound.

Speaking to the report the chairman said that last yeor £ll5 had been spent on improvements and this expenditure would not be recurring. Very little expenditure would be necessary for this year’s meeting. Officers for the year were elected as under: —President, Mr W. J. Wood; vice-president, Mr R. W. Bond; treasurer, Mr W. 1. Limbrick; surgeon, Dr. F. W. B. South; veterinary surgeon, Mr A. M. Brodie; committee, Messrs A. E. Jull, W. H. Rathbone, W. A. Tod, T. W. Wills, J. McCartin, H. S. Rathbone, C. H. Critchley, T. A. Colquboun, 0. Upton, F. Staines, and G. Taylor. Two new members were elected.

The president was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for hig services over a period of years. At a meeting of the committee held subsequently the following appointments were made for the October race meeting:—Handicapper, Mr J. E. Henrys; clerk of course, Mr F. Rowe; starter, Mr A. Vincent; judge, Mr A. Hyde; programme committee, Messrs W. H. Rathbone, W. J. Wood, and J. McCartin; ground committee, Messrs AV. J. Wood, AV. I. Limbrick and R. W. Bond; timekeeper, Mr W. A. Tod. The appointment of a clerk of the scales was left in abeyance.

Tentative proposals submitted by the programme committee for the meeting were adopted. They provided for a reduction in the stake money to £520. It was decided to reduce the prices of admission to the course to 4s for men, 2s for ladies, and 2s for cars. Ten shilling tickets are to be issued on the totalisator.

The matter of necessary improvements to the course appointments was left in abeyance for a meeting of the committee on the course.
