MAHORA SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Mahora School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening. Present: Messrs J. Wise (chairman), J. Arrell, J. Howard, A. Wilkie, R. Short, R. Gray, J. E. Hall (treasurer), C. Carrell (secretary), and the headmaster (Mr Chaplin). Leave of absence was granted the chairman (Mr C. Lassen). A communication from the board notified the appointment of Mr J. Howard in place of W. A. Kiddell, who has resigned on account of his moving to Napier. The headmaster’s report showed the roll number to be 681, and the average attendance 600. The low average was due to colds and mild influenza in the lower classes.
The inspector’s report was received, showing that the work of the school is very good, special mention being made of the capable manner in which the school is managed. A vote of thanks was passed to the chairman for the amount of work he personally has done around the school. Accounts amounting to £27 14s 5d were passed for payment.
The treasurer’s statement was read, showing a credit balance of approximately £7B. Attention is drawn to the boxing tournament between the Parkvale and Mahora school children for the Kossell Cup, to be held in the Drill Hall on August 8, the proceeds to be divided between the two schools for sports material.
