PLANE’S FORCED LANDING. H.B. CLUB Iu.KHINE DAMAGED. Gisborne, June 11. Members of the Poverty Bay Golf Club playing on the links this afternoon had quite a thrill when an aeroplane made a forced landing as a result, of which the pilot, Simon Baring, is in hospital suffering from a broken nose and shock. For months past the Gisborne n: •■’- bers of the Hawke’s Bay Club have been negotiating to have a machine stationed in Gisborne for instructional purposes. The request was finally agreed to and a Moth machine was sent up here this morning. Severn! pilots had flights, and Baring, v. Im is a licensed A pilot, took his turn After flying for some time the machine, it is stated, went into a spin at a low altitude and came out of the spin too cl ise to the ground. The machine, which had been overhauled just recently, struck the ground at an angle of 45 degrees and was very badly damaged, the front part of the fuselage being smashed to matchwood.

The pilot stepped out of the plane and, after medical attention, was removed to hospital.
