SALVATION ARMY
MONDAY’S BAND CONCERT. Despite the cold snap, there was a most enthusiastic assembly at the Salvation Army Citadel at Hastings to receive tho extravaganza of music on Monday evening. Adjutant Goffin with bis talented party demonstrated that music of a high order is available in our midst. The “New Napier” March (composed by the conductor) opened proceedings with a fanfare of trumpets, for several bars, when the combined bands took up tho lilting melody of the march. Embodied in this piece is a popular Army melody, “Jv.it One Day Nearer Home.” Tho march was rendered excellently and received tumultuous applause. The Napier Band was heard to advantage ir. their performance of the “Mediation Hahin” and “The Warrior’s Reward.” whilst their treatment of a special work, “Friendship,” by Mr. A. Mullingor, L.R.A.M., etc. (a New Zealand composer worthy of note' merited worthy commendation. Too gem ot tho evening entertn- ■ nmnt V.as urn ~-d, - the skilful v' Im pining by Deputy Bandmaster Cecil Fitzwater, of Napier. This young man is a most promising violinist and t was recalled by hearty applause. The' lot’ll Salvation Army Band are much indeitcil to the Napier comrades fori /heir help and as a result will benefit, ! financially. J
