DOMINION LICENSES

OVTR 60,000 RENEWALS. Up to April 30 last a total of 63,224 radio licenses were in force in New Zealand. The detailed figures are as follows :— Receivers’ licenses, 61,795. Dealers’ licenses, 786. Transmitting licenses, 421. The number of licenses held at March 31 last was 74,741. The renewals at April 30 last year amounted to 45,842, so it obvious that the depression has not deterred people from operating wireless sets. Of the 61,795 receivers’ renewals 25,615 were held in Wellington, 18,067 in Auckland, 9820 in Canterbury, and 8293 in Otago. There is always a heavy drop in the number of licenses renewed at the end of April, as compared with those expiring at the end of March, the drop approximating 25 per cent. This year the drop is only a little over 15 per cent., and the figures indicate a very healthy position.
