Empire Preference.
Sir Granville Ryrie, speaking at the Knights of the Round Table dinner, said that Australia recently made a very good gesture by reducing customs duties on many British articles, thus paving the way for preferential arrangements at Ottawa, so benefiting the Empire. He did not think the results of the Ottawa Conference would be disappointing. Mr J. A. Stringer, aged 72, a builder and contractor and a Nelson city councillor, has been missing from his home since early yesterday morning. Search parties have been unsuccessful. Mr Stringer five months ago suffered from illness causing lapses of memory.
