EASTER TOURNAMENT THE HAWKE’S BAY CLUB SEVERAL FINALS DECIDED The Hawke’s Bay Lawn Tennis Club’s Easter Tournament was advanced a further stage yesterday, when the finals in several events were decided. With warm sunny weather, and the courts in excellent playing order, yesterday’s matches were particularly interesting and enjoyable. The final of the men’s championship doubles resulted in Hay-Campbell and Meuli beating D Ritchie and Ormond, 4—6, 6—l, 6—3. In the ladies’ championship doubles. Mrs McMasters and Miss Howell were defeated by Mrs Hassall and Mrs Hetle.v, 6—5, o—6,0 —6, 7 —5, whilst the combined doubles went to Ormond and Mrs Cotterill, who beat Elliott and Miss Scott, 6 —2, 6 —4. In the handicaps the men’s doubles were awarded to Marchant and Jordan (12) who gained a victory from Meuli and Hay-Campbell (8), with the score reading 60 —42. Mrs Mawson (scr) heat Mrs Dunsford (30) 50—37, in the ladies’ singles final, the combined doubles going to Sharpe and Miss Lopdell (10), who heat Bradley and Mrs Mawson (17), 60—54. With his right leg broken in an automobile accident, Francis Hunter, a former Davis Cup tennis player, appears to be at the end of his tournament playing career. He turned professional a year ago.
