RELIEF WORKERS’ STRIKE

CONTINUES AT WAIMAKARIRI. ANXIOUS NIGHT AT McLEAN’S ISLAND CAMP. Christchurch, March 30. The strike of the Waimakariri relief workers continues. So far only 35 men have offered for employment. Fearing reprisals, four policemen stood guard at the McLean’s Island camp during the night, but no attempt was made to molest the men in the Huts. Despite this the men spent an anxious night and, as a precautionary measure, had pick handles within easy reach of their bunks. Two other policemen guarded the approaches to the camp.
