Mr George Ebbett, of Hastings, is on a few days’ visit to Wellington.

Mr A. J. Parker has been reappointed for a term of three years as the Government nominee on the Auckland Harbour Board. The appointment w ill take effect from April 27.

Private advice has been received in New Plymouth of the death in London, early in February, of Mr W. H. Cook, formerly engineer to the Borough of New Plymouth.

Mrs Hugh Kelly, an old resident of Dannevirke, died on Sunday. Deceased. who was born in County Leitrim, Ireland, came to New Zealand 51 years ago. Mrs Sydney Moss, of Napier, is a daughter of the deceased.

Manu Mataakura (Mrs Sharia nd), Minerapa road, Okato, died on Saturday at the age of 52 years. She was a well-known Native, the mother of 19 children, many of whom are living in the Okato district.

The Rev. W. C. Jenkins, who has been relieving the Rev. Oxbrow, Pastor of the Methodist Church, Hastings, for the past two months, left this morning on a short holiday visit to Wellington, before taking up residence at Wairoa.

The dean of Hamilton, the Very Rev. G. R. Barnett, has tendered his resignation as vjear of Hamilton and dean of St. Peter’s Cathedral. His resignation will take effect in June. Dean Barnett will leave to take up work in England at the end of June and will be accompanied by Mrs Barnett.

Mr John Wood, a well-known trotting official, who died at his residence, Riccarton, on Saturday, was a steward and a member of the Judicial Committee of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club, also a member of the Canterbury Owners and Breeders’ Association. Mr Wood was born in Christchurch in 1857, and when a young man he inaugurated the first coach service which ran between the city and Riccarton racecourse.

While taking part in a bowling tournament at the Morrinsville green on Monday, an elderly man, Mr Walter E. C. Bodman, collapsed and died. Mr Bodman, who is a well-known resident, appeared to De in the best of health. A doctor was summoned immediately following his collapse, but Mr Bodman died half an hour later. Death was due to haemorrhage. Play for the day was abandoned. 4dr Bodman is survived by his wife, who is ill in the Waikato Hospital, and a grown-up family.

During last week several functions were tendered at Opunake to the Rev. J. G. Wheatley, Mrs Wheatley, Misses Nancy and Josephine Wheatley, and other members of the family, who later left for Port Ahuriri. The farewells included a social given to the Rev. and Mrs Wheatley by the members of the Presbyterian Church. There was a largo attendance of all denominations, and during the evening presentations of a floor rug and a tea wagon were made to the departing guests.

Mrs Agnes Mary Ward, of Hastings, aged 79. died suddenly at ‘he Hastings Catholic Churc h on Sunday night. Mrs Ward who had formerly resided in Waipawa and Wairoa, was th# widow of the late Felix Ward of Blenheim. A devoted Catholic, well educated, well read and cultured, deceased was highly respected among a large circle of friends and acquaintances. Mrs Ward was also a relative of Archbishop Redwood. The Rev. Father McBreen administered the last sacrament and anointed the deceased.
