NAPIER COMPETITIONS FURTHER AWARDS. HIGH STANDARD MAINTAINED. The high standard of the performances at the Napier music and elocutionary competitions was well maintained at yesterday’s sessions, and there was no lessening of the keen public interest. The judges’ awards in yesterday’s classes were as under:— Recitation, boys under 12.—Master Keith Dockery (Napier), 80 points, 1; Master Ted Luke (Napier), 79 points, 2; Master Berin Spiro (Napier), highly commended. Classic dance, under 10.—Miss Betty Spiro (Napier), 76 points, 1; Miss Ivena Pathan (Hastings), 74 points, 2; Miss Phyllis Armer (Napier), highly commended.
Violin, under 16, “Secondo Romance”.—Miss Billie Murphy (Napier), 89 points, 1; Miss Nona Coleman (Hastings), 80 points, 2; Master Jack Franklin (Napier), highly commended. Irish jig, under 14.—Miss Jean Lee (Napier), 83 points, 1; Miss Peggy Black (Napier), 80 points, 2. Song in costume, boy or girl under 10.—Miss Valerie Evans (Napier) and Miss Heather Stuart (Napier), 97 points, tie, 1; Miss Pat Fullalove (Hastings), 93 points, 2. Musical monologue, boy or girl under 16, own selection. — Master Robert Chyne (Wellington), 85 points, 1; Master Donald Davies (Hastings), 78 points, 2. Vocal duet, boy or girl under 16, own selection. —Misses Marie Copland and Marjorie Hayter (Napier), 78 points, 1; Misses Bernice Mooney and Marie Copland (Napier), 77 points, 2. Character dance, under 10 years.— Miss Phyllis Armer (Napier) 80 points 1, Miss Betty Spiro (Napier) 75 points 2, Miss Rae Sanders (Hastings) 74 points h.c.
