FLOUR FROM OVERSEAS

OVER ONE THOUSAND TONS. LOWER DUTIES OPERATE. Auckland, March 1. Two steamers arrived at Auckland from overseas this morning with flour which will pay tire decreased customs duty which came into force at Midnight on Monday. The American steamer Golden Cloud arrived from Los Angeles with cargo from Pacific Coast ports, including 1000 tons of flour from Vancouver. Of that amount 200 tons is for Auckland and the remainder for southern ports of New Zealand.

The Ulimaroa from Sydney brought 30 tons of flour and 8 tons of wheat for Auckland.

The steamer Port Hunter, which arrived at Auckland from New York on Monday morning, had about 112 tons of American flour for Auckland. As the vessel arrived only 18 hours before the new tariff came into force, the amount of duty to be charged is under consideration.
