The performance of the Hawke’s Bay cricket team which played Canterbury at Napier on January 14 and 15 last was the subject of the following remarks made in a letter written to the secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association by Mr H. Stephenson, of Auckland, an ex-member of the association: —“Please convey to your chairman and executive my heartiest congratulations on the splendid performance of the Hawke’s Bay team in their match with Canterbury. It was really splendid and, to me, was very pleasant reading.” In the same connection the secretary received a letter from the Canterbury Association expressing its thanks for the hospitality shown to the Canterbury team during its stay in Napier. In the points prizes at the Feilding Show Mr O. Nelson won outright the Elliott Silver Cup for the ladies’ jumping competition; Mr A. J. Baird, Hastings, won the H. J. Lancaster trophy for most points in the grade dairy section; and Miss A. R. McLean, Havelock North, won Mr A. H. McCorkindale's trophy for most points in the ladies’ needlework section. Mrs. L. W. Goldfinch, Havelock North, tied with two other competitors for the special for most points in the novice preserves classes. Miss D. Wiggins, however, winning the special, as she had received most first awards.
